• Julia Engelmann

Julia Engelmann was born in Elmshorn in 1992, grew up in Bremen and now lives in Berlin. She is a poet, musician and actress.

She describes her poem "One Day, Baby" as the "big bang" of her career, because in early 2014 the video of her performance at the "Bielefeld Hörsaal Slam" with her poem was clicked around 5 million times on YouTube within 2 weeks - around 13.5 million times to date.

In her youth, she performed in a wide variety of dance, musical and theater productions in Bremen. In 2009, she discovered the poetry slam format for herself by chance, after which she successfully participated in poetry slams in German-speaking countries for 5 years. From 2010 she played the ice hockey player Franziska Steinkamp in the main cast RTL series "Alles was zählt" for 2 years.

In 2012, she began her psychology studies, which she "successfully dropped out of" after a few semesters to devote herself fully to writing. She wrote 6 bestselling poetry books, all of which landed in the top 20 of the Spiegel bestseller list, two of them even at number 1. She illustrates her books herself and all of her audio books have been recorded by her. To date, almost 1 million books and audio books have been sold. She became a columnist for Stern magazine and was a guest on various talk shows and radio programs. She traveled to San Francisco for the Goethe Institute and gave writing workshops at the universities of Oxford, Canterbury and Middlebury (USA).

In 2015, she began touring the German-speaking world - with a self-made stage set, a guitar and her parents. 2017 saw the release of her first music album, "Poesiealbum", which went straight to #9 in the German album charts and earned her an Echo nomination. From then on, Julia was also on the road with a band, playing at various festivals, five sold-out tours - most recently in the fall of 2018 with her tour program "Poesiealbum Live" in 35 cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This was followed by the release of her first DVD "Live from the Admiralspalast in Berlin".

Her sixth book and audio book "Keine Ahnung, was für immer ist" was published by Goldmann-Verlag on 21.9.2020.
